Pony School

It’s never too early to start.

Amy Quinlan Equestrian’s “Pony School” is the only USHJA Recognized Riding Academy in Hawai’i. Designed for youth, from young children to teens new to the sport. Amy offers foundational riding and horsemanship skills that can be applied towards multiple disciplines including jumping, polo, dressage, pleasure and trail riding; as riders progress while developing self confidence and perseverance in each individual.

As a USHJA RRA, Amy Quinlan’s lesson and training program demonstrates the value of equine education, promotes safety of horse and rider, and offers Hunter/ jumper lessons taught by qualified instructors.

Lessons & Training

We work closely with clients as they each set their own individual goals – whether it’s being in the spotlight at a national finals, bringing home a ribbon from a local show, or just being the best rider possible. We teach six days a week, and clients are encouraged to ride every day they can. Our passion for the sport is contagious, and with perseverance, a healthy dose of fun and lots of hard work, Amy Quinlan will help make those goals become reality.

Pony School Levels

Pony Partners (4-10 year olds)

At this age we focus on building confidence by emphasizing awareness and safety around ponies and horses. They learn early body awareness (including simple anatomy) and exercises that help develop posture and strong trunk control. Students also gain coordination skills and upper body strength.

Equine Explorers (10-12 year olds)

Self-control is emphasized at this level. Lessons are private until the young rider learns to navigate safely in the arena with other riders, These classes are 90 minutes in length and include preparing the horse to ride through grooming and tacking. Most importantly, children learn early to respect and be kind to our furry friends.

Teens (13-17 year olds)

Whether your teen has never been on a horse or has ridden for many years, they will enjoy the fun activities at the barn that will help them improve their skills and grow into responsible, respectful equine leaders. Communication is emphasized – both with the horses and with each other.
